what makes colombia so special

Are you deciding on your next big trip and need some convincing?

Considering the dollar to Colombian peso exchange, it could not be a better time for foreigners to visit Colombia and its wonders.

In addition, Colombia is still quite unexplored but might not be for much longer.

Visit Colombia now while everything is still unexplored and authentic. There is no better place to escape and get off the beaten path.

But don’t take my word for it. I spoke with a few Colombian travel bloggers who have been to some of the most amazing and envied spots on the planet, yet still find Colombia unique.

what makes colombia so special

If you want yet another reason here’s what makes Colombia so special in the words of 7 Colombian travel bloggers.

Lina from Patoneando

Colombia is culturally and socially rich. It is a mosaic of different faces, flavors, colors and rhythms. A place where everything mixes together as a result of our indigenous, African and European descendants.

Edith from Mi Viajar

What makes Colombia so special is its people and their ability to face difficult day-to-day situations with a smile and perseverance.

Natalie from Cuentos de Mochila

Colombia is an amazing puzzle of surreal landscapes where you’ll find everything, from the remotest islands to the tallest misty mountains.

Andrea from Colombian Abroad

Obviously, what makes Colombia so special is its charismatic people and their beautiful, welcoming smiles that immediately make you feel like you’re part of the family.

But there are also many other things that set Colombia apart.

Literature such as that from Gabriel García Márquez, its famous Wayuu crafts, paintings such as those from Fernando Botero, and great music artists such Juanes, Fonseca and Shakira are only a small sample of what Colombia shares with love to the world.

Paula from Vieja que Viaja

The quantity and diversity of landscapes that you can find within a single country are outstanding.

You can escape to the beach just as much as you can get lost in the jungle, admire a desert sunset or hike green mountains.

Diversity is not only found in its landscapes but also in its culture and its people. The culture of the Pacific is very different than that of the Caribbean coast. People from the region of Antioquia are opposite to rolos AKA bogotanos. These are just a few examples which I think are part of Colombia’s forte.

Tshamanny from Te Quiero Mostrar

Its diversity in terms of culture, climate, landscapes and flora and fauna makes it so that no matter what you’re into, you’re bound to find what you are looking for in one of the many magical corners of Colombia. Plus, its people will make you immediately feel at home.

Lina and Andrés from Renunciamos y Viajamos

Many good things can be said of Colombia. Its two seas, its microclimates, its mountains, hills, deserts and snowy peaks. And of course, the best and smoothest coffee in the world. Not to mention its rivers, birds, towns and cities.

But Colombia has something that makes it truly unique; its people.  Kindness is scattered throughout its beautiful territory, filled with different accents, and with skin colors ranging from charcoal black to indigenous skin, the color of burnt desert sand.

Beautiful women and smiling children. Farmers with ponchos, sombreros and machete. All of these people waiting to give you a warm welcome with a buenas tardes, a la orden, en qué le puedo servir, bien pueda siga. Would you like a cup of coffee? Well in Colombia, we’ll offer you one. Because this country opens its arm wide open and everyone is welcome.

So what’s the next country on your list?! Do you still need convincing on what makes Colombia so special?
