Expat Success Story of LoEnvío: Meet the Team
This week, I would like to shed some light on the expat success story of LoEnvío, an online platform used to compare and book shipping services. LoEnvío is a Colombian company founded in 2014, by French and Colombian co-founders: Sébastien, Andrés, and Julien.
The 2 Frenchmen fell in love not only with Colombia and its beauty, but its great potential for business. After 2 years of living in Bogotá, Sébastien had the jitters to start his own logistics company. Here, he met Andrés, an expert in the domain. Later, he convinced Julien to join on board, who was already sold at the idea of living and working in Colombia since his amazing 3-week journey around the country.
I sat down with Julien to ask him a little bit about LoEnvío in Colombia and the successes and roadblocks they have encountered so far.
1. How did the idea of LoEnvio come about?
It all started when Sébastien wanted to send a parcel back home to France. He did some research online and made a few calls to a few shipping companies, but wasn’t able to get a quote. I think it was at that time that the idea struck him.
From there, we started doing some market research, received great advice from local entrepreneurs and decided to get started.
2. How difficult was setting up your own business in Colombia?
Starting a business in Colombia is quite easy and inexpensive. The investment required for a startup like ours is relatively low. However, it’s important to set up the business correctly. You should seek the help of a good lawyer and accountant. Overall, the process was smooth.
The main challenge we faced was finding skilled programmers. There is a shortage of top-level programmers in Colombia. We made the choice to hire programmers in their last year of university. This came with a downside as they were still in school and only had so much time to dedicate to LoEnvío, but we were happy with this choice.
3. Tell us a little bit about how the expat community can benefit from your services.
If you are an expat and want to send a parcel back home, Loenvío is your go-to service.
If you go to the website of a shipping company or even call them, you are unlikely to get a quote. With Loenvío, you can, and almost instantly! We currently work with UPS, DHL, and 4-72 for international services.
You can of also send parcels within Colombia as well. Our local partners are Servientrega, Envía, TCC, and Deprisa.
3. What’s in store for the future on LoEnvio?
We have several expansion projects. Right now, we are negotiating with more courier companies to offer a wider range of options to our clients. In the near future, we plan to expand our operations to other countries within Latin America and we are also considering creating an app for iOS and Android.
4. And the most important question: what’s your favorite Colombian dish?
If you’re struggling to send a letter or parcel abroad, I strongly suggest you take a look at Julien, Sébastien, and Andrés’s innovative shipping comparison platform: LoEnvío, to get the best quote for shipping prices and more!
